As the holidays approach and a new year awaits us, I am hopeful that all of my students are thinking of ways to up their game and do all they can to make 2023 more fun, more exciting and more lucrative than 2022!
Below are a few suggestions for actors dedicated to making 2023 their best year ever!
1. UPDATE YOUR HEADSHOTS!
If your headshots are more than a year old, or your looks have changed dramatically, it is time to update your headshots.
2. UPDATE YOUR REEL
If you have new material to add to your reel, add it!
3. UPDATE ACTORS ACCESS OTHER CASTING WEBSITES
Keep your slate and your clips current. Add new work as it happens and your size card periodically. Agents are sticklers about that
4. SOCIAL MEDIA
Actors NEED it to network and should be on all of them, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. The industry has changed and actors are actually getting work through their social media platforms.
5. BROADEN NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
Find Meet Up groups in your area or other organizations who hold actor’s events, join them and make plans on attending some throughout the year.
6. STUDY
If you are in an ongoing class, stay there! If there is some other aspect of acting you want to explore (improv, commercial technique, audition technique) find classes and enroll!
7. GET AN Acting Agent
If you have been in class for a while and have been self-submitting and booking roles on your own, it is time to secure an agent.
8. GET A NEW ACTING AGENT
If you have an agent but you are not being submitted, perhaps it is time to find a new agent. If this relationship is not working for you, it is not working for your agent either.
9. BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOU!
If your diet and workout routine suffered a setback over the holidays, get back on track! In addition to being physically fit, make sure your heart mind and soul are also in top form It’s a tough business and being emotionally and mentally strong are every bit as having strong and resilient body.
Have a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year!
